Sri Somnath Mahadev.
Chandrama/Soma, the presiding deity of the Moon was wed to the 27 daughters of Daksha Prajapati, a son of Brahma, but he loved only one of them, Rohini. This caused great frustration to the other sisters and an infuriated Daksha cursed his son-in-law, causing him to loose his lustre.

In despair, Chandra turned to Lord Shiva and worshipped him with such zealous devotion, (on the coast of where Gujarat is now located) that Shiva gave him respite from the curse; he would wax for half the month and wane for the rest of the month. In gratitude Chandradev built a Shiva temple at that place to enshrine the Lord’s Jyotirlinga, Sri Somanth Mahadev (the Lord of the Moon).
* The temple is referred to in Rigveda, Skanda Purana and Mahabharata.
