દ્વારકાધીશ મંદિર
Jagat Mandir, Dwarka.
Silhouette of the Lords mandir at Dwarka, Gujarat.
The Jagat mandir enshrines Lord Krsna as the Lord of Dwarika within its sanctum sanctorum. The temple is resting upon the ruins of the ancient Dwarka, the city of Lord Krsna, now submerged under the sea after the disappearance of the Lord from this earthly realm. This magnificent temple holds the garbh gruh above five storeys of 72 carved stone pillars, and is believed to be 2500 years old.
The original nij mandir was established by Vajranabh (the grandson of Lord Krsna) some 5000 years ago over the hari gruh, or the actual quarters of Sri Krsna. The holy city of Dwarka is one of the most sacred sites of Hinduism, constituting one out of the four cities that are known as Char Dham (the other three being Badri, Jagganath Puri, and Rameshwaram). It is also one of the sapta puri (the seven cities of Ayodhya, Dwarka, Haridwar, Ujjain, Kanchipuram, Mathura and Varanasi), visiting any of which, will award mukti/moksha liberation.
