Kesariya balam avo ni padharo mara desh re.

This beautiful folk song sums up the whole of Rajasthan for me; it conjures up tangible images of the wonderful palaces, of sand dunes, of dusty winding lanes, of the rich culture in the land of kings. The song beckons the beloved back to familiar lands, back home. It is here it takes up an entire alternate meaning for me - to enter back in into the land of the beloved, back to the land of Vraj, to the land of Lord Krsna. In this sense this folk song transcends itself and becomes meaningful on another altogether divine level. So I had this playing today with snow surrounding me whilst trying not to slip on icy pavements.
